We have a Beowulf cluster for parallel processing. It has 45 nodes of Phenom 9850 processors, with an estimate computing power of 200 GFlops and 180 Gbytes of distributed RAM.
This system is used for neural networks training, genetic algorithm optimization and image processing. In many applications it is possible to obtain speedups close to one, with a reduction of simulating time by 150-180. Many of our simulations take more than a week in finishing, so without a cluster like this, it will not possible to broach those works.
